Vishing

Phishing attempts made over the phone with real-time calls or voice messages.

What is Vishing?

Vishing, also known as voice phishing, is a type of cyber attack that uses phone calls or voice messages to trick individuals into divulging sensitive information or making unauthorized transactions. Vishing attacks often impersonate a trusted authority figure or organization, such as a bank or government agency, in order to gain the victim’s trust and convince them to comply with the attacker’s requests.

Vishing attacks can be difficult to detect, as the attacker may use spoofing techniques to make it appear as though the call is coming from a legitimate phone number. They may also use fear or urgency to pressure the victim into making a quick decision.

How to protect against Vishing

To protect against vishing attacks, it is important to be wary of unexpected phone calls or voice messages and to never give out personal or financial information over the phone unless you are certain the call is legitimate. If you are unsure, hang up and verify the caller’s identity using a trusted phone number or website.
